Northeast ADA Center
The Northeast ADA Center’s mission is to provide a greater awareness of the Americans with Disabilities Act through information, referrals, resources and trainings focused on the equal opportunities that people with disabilities are guaranteed under federal law.
Headquartered at the Yang-Tan Institute, the Northeast ADA Center is a neutral resource for companies, educational institutions, disability advocacy organizations, and individuals. Its region covers New York State, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands and is one of 10 ADA centers across the United States.
The Northeast ADA Center provides a variety of trainings, technical assistance, and distributes materials focused on disability related topics. It is not an enforcement agency and does not provide advocacy services.
Trainings: Topics for trainings include educating agencies and people about disability, how to implement requirements of the ADA, deciphering accessibility regulations, the practical implications of court rulings, and more. We also help people understand disability legislation and how it affects individuals in areas including employment, physical accessibility, public accommodations, telecommunications, information technology, and other disability rights laws as they relate to the ADA. The Center also does a great deal of work helping employers understand disability inclusiveness and the practical applications of the ADA.
Technical Assistance: The Northeast ADA Center operates a confidential toll-free hotline (1-800-949-4232) where people and businesses can get explanations on regulations, ADA requirements and more. We are also available via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and at www.northeastada.org. Answers are provided within 24 hours (or next business day).
Information Dissemination: People can sign up for the Northeast ADA Center’s monthly technical bulletins via e-mail or access it by logging onto www.northeastada.org. Subjects covered include Supreme Court updates, access issues, employment, telecommunications, upcoming training programs, and distance learning opportunities.
